Finally onto the pictures from the Annapurna Circuit…
The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal was once considered to be THE greatest walk on the planet and is still somewhere on that list. What has decreased its ranking in recent years are the effects of its own popularity. While the walk is still a stunning and life enhancing experience, the wish to make the trek more accessible to more tourists by adding roads, has diminished the charm that made it once stand out.
That said, it’s still a fantastic trek of approximately 280km over roughly 16-18 days. The trail takes you through dozens of towns, through deep valleys, high mountain passes, over many suspension bridges, and allows you to eat more rice in one stretch than ever before in your life. Beauty on the trail comes in many forms and scales. The obvious beauty is the landscape which has more peaks in the 8000m range than anywhere else on earth, incredible canyons, glaciers, hoodoos, caves, and every other formation you can find in a geography text book. Just as beautiful and on a smaller scale, is the life that goes on within this gorgeous landscape. Everywhere there is a dazzling array or texture and color and sometimes in unexpected places.
This post covers the bus trip to the trail head at Besisahar to a small town covered with terraced fields called Syanje. While the images are sequential, they are not meant to be a play by play. They are just my favorites. Enjoy!

Wow, incredible pictures! Definitely caught my breath on several of them
Great shots! Eric and I can’t wait to start doing trips like this again! It’s going to be a few years still, so we’ll live vicariously through you guys!
Some really beautiful shots there Andrew. I particularly like the locked door, the two oxen on the terraced hillside, and the handprint and lantern.
